Before I start just to remember, here I have use Windows XP as the operating system. For the other perhaps have different ways. OK, let's role, here is the key :

  • Defrag your hard drive. This way is useful to rearrange your file, folder and cluster in your hard drive. By default, the tools is can find at Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter.

  • Clean up from unnecessary file, such as temporary file, cache file, cookies from internet browsing and many more.

  • Reduce application that running when your computer startup. How do this?. Activate "Run" Windows, shortcut is "Windows Key+R". At open segment, type "msconfig" without quote. And then you will be directly go to System Configuration Utility. Going to "Startup" tab, and then deselect the option for the unwanted program and/or application to run.

  • Remove unused program and/or application for long period. Just go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. And select the program to remove it on the next window.

  • Increase your paging file capacity. Just right click on MyComputer > Properties > choose "Advanced" tab > look for "Performance" segment, press "Settings" button > when you entered go to "Advanced" tab once more > look for "Virtual Memory" segment, press "Change" button. Here you can set paging file for every drive and partition. Don't forget to press "Set" button and "OK" to activate it.

  • Setting your computer to the best performance. You can do same as like before, just right click on MyComputer > Properties > choose "Advanced" tab > look for "Performance" segment, press "Settings" button > the different is here, look for "Visual Effect" tab, by default you automatically here. See at the below and select the options "Adjust for the best performance". The result is your windows appearance will be go to 'old fashioned' without animation and etc.

  • Delete Prefetch file, go to Windows folder and choose subfolder named "Prefetch". Clean up file here regularly at least 2 up to 3 times a week.

  • Use 3rd party software like Tune Up Utilities, Registry Mechanic, System Mechanic, and something like them.

  • And the last,...upgrade your computer hardware :))), I think isn't a solution, just kidding.

Cleaning the prefetch folder is a myth, the folder is self cleaning by Windows. Cleaning it will REDUCE performance.
